India finishes third at the 2026 Winter Olympics with 9 medals including two golds, its best-ever Winter Games performance.
India concluded its most successful Winter Olympics in history at the Milan-Cortina 2026 Games, finishing third on the overall medal tally with two gold medals, three silver medals, and four bronze medals across alpine skiing, figure skating, and cross-country skiing disciplines. The transformation was credited to the Khelo India Winter Games programme launched in 2021 that identified and developed athletes from Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Jammu and Kashmir. Aryan Verma became the first Indian to win an Olympic gold medal in skiing, taking the men slalom title by 0.04 seconds over the French defending champion. Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya called the performance a watershed moment and announced a Rs 500 crore dedicated Winter Sports Academy to be built in Gulmarg, Kashmir.
