The Board of Control for Cricket in India confirmed plans for a second major cricket stadium in Ahmedabad, to be built adjacent to the existing Narendra Modi Stadium, which will increase Ahmedabad total cricket seating capacity to over 1.5 lakh — making it the largest cricket-hosting city in the world by capacity. The new 80,000-seat stadium, to be constructed by the Gujarat Cricket Association with central government support, will feature a retractable roof, hybrid turf, and a complete underground parking facility for 8,000 vehicles. Construction is expected to begin in Q3 2025 with a completion target of December 2028.
