IOC confirms the Gabba as Brisbane 2032 Olympics ceremony venue, with India requesting kabaddi as an exhibition sport.
The International Olympic Committee confirmed the Gabba cricket ground in Brisbane as the primary venue for the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2032 Olympic Games, following a comprehensive upgrade that will transform it into a 50,000-seat multi-sport arena with a fully retractable roof. Queensland government officials confirmed construction work on the new Gabba will begin in Q1 2026 at a total cost of AUD 3.4 billion. The IOC also announced the first 15 sports on the Brisbane 2032 competition programme, with skateboarding, surfing, sport climbing, and breaking all confirmed to return from the Paris Games. India has requested the inclusion of kabaddi as an exhibition sport at Brisbane 2032 and received a formal indication from the IOC that the application is under active consideration.
