Amazon launched Alexa Plus, a dramatically upgraded version of its voice assistant powered by a proprietary large language model developed in-house under the Olympus programme. Alexa Plus can autonomously complete multi-step online shopping tasks — comparing prices, applying coupons, selecting delivery options, and completing checkout — without user confirmation at every step, within guardrails set by the user. The assistant also manages smart home ecosystems through natural conversation, coordinating devices from over 500 manufacturers on a unified AI layer. Amazon confirmed Alexa Plus will be available as a subscription at $9.99 per month or bundled with Prime. India launch is confirmed for Q3 2025, with an expanded Hinglish conversational mode that handles code-switching between Hindi and English natively. Amazon India said over 3 million Alexa-enabled devices are already active in Indian households.
