Kerala has become the first state in India to achieve 100% broadband connectivity across all 941 gram panchayats, completing a seven-year effort under the Kerala Fibre Optic Network project. The state government confirmed that every village-level administrative unit now has access to high-speed internet with a minimum guaranteed speed of 100 Mbps. The project, executed through public sector utility Kerala State IT Infrastructure Limited, laid over 30,000 kilometres of optical fibre reaching deep into forest-fringe communities and islands. Digital literacy camps running alongside the rollout have enrolled over 1.2 million residents in basic internet skills programmes. The Union Ministry of Electronics and IT has cited Kerala as a model for the national BharatNet Phase 3 implementation across other states.
