Bengaluru Metro Phase 3 opens, making Namma Metro at 220 km the longest metro network in India, surpassing Delhi.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Phase 3 of the Namma Metro in Bengaluru, adding 44.65 kilometres across three new corridors and pushing the city metro network to a total of 220 kilometres — overtaking Delhi to become the longest metro rail network in India. The new Phase 3 lines connect the outer ring road tech corridors of Sarjapur and Whitefield to the airport via an underground section beneath MG Road. Daily ridership projections for the expanded network stand at 1.5 million trips, which Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation says will remove approximately 400,000 private vehicles from the city roads daily. A real-time multimodal app integrating metro, BMTC bus, and auto-rickshaw booking was also launched alongside the inauguration. Bengaluru now has India highest metro ridership per kilometre of network.
